There are many MYTHS about Christopher Columbus. because of the limited source material that has survived the test of time. We are here to set the record straight. Here are some common myths about our hero Christopher Columbus…
MYTH #1
“Everyone already believed the world was round before CC made his voyages.”
CORRECTION:
Most people at that time believed the earth was flat. This idea was justified by the writings of Bartoleme de las Casas. He wrote that CC’s plan was rejected by the Spanish commission of Scholars because they did not believe the possibility of a round world.

CORRECTION:

“CC mistreated and enslaved the Taino people.”
CORRECTION:
CC treated the Taino people with respect according to his own voyage diaries. CC claimed to have never enslaved a single Taino.
MYTH #3
“CC died alone in a Spanish prison.”
CORRECTION:
CC died in Valodiad, Spain as a pauper and broken man in 1506, as evidenced by his journals.
